Thanks to their striking design, the class E 94 locomotives are among the most famous electric locomotives in Germany. The sound design proved that a speed of 100 km/h can be achieved even with the use of a drive suspended on the axles. The hourly output of the E 94 locomotives was a respectable 3,240 kW, the start-up output was even 3,900 kW. The locomotive was disrespectfully nicknamed "Eisenschwein" (iron pig) in the DR after the war.
