The Prague ČKD plant developed and built the so-called T 478.4 brejlovka, further developed from the previous type T 478.3, with a more powerful engine and electric train heating. In 1988, eighty-six locomotives received the new class designation 754. Since 2009, locomotives used in passenger transport have been painted in blue-grey "Najbrt" livery.
