In 2019, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG put a new high-performance snow cutter into operation. Two 793 kW (approx. 1,100 hp) MAN twelve-cylinder engines are used in the machine, which is used to clear snow-covered railway tracks. One aggregate drives the vehicle, the other is used to operate the slingshot. The snow blower creates up to 10,000 tons of snow per hour with a throwing range of 40 meters. For transfer journeys, it is approved for a speed of up to 100 km/h. A 180° rotatable rim allows turning on the spot. This means that even the most difficult alpine weather conditions can be mastered.
