In 1973, the Deutsche Bundesbahn introduced the train type City-D-Zug, abbreviated DC. These two-class express trains were to supplement the single-class IC system of 1971. On the Frankfurt (M) - Hagen - Münster - Emden route (later partly as far as Norddeich), all three DC train pairs with carriages in the popular pop colours were used from 1970.
