6 machines were reconstructed for Czech Railways between 1996–2000, the seventh locomotive 371.201 (original 180.001 DB) was received as compensation for damage to a Czech locomotive in Dresden. The main goal of the modernization was to increase the maximum speed of the locomotive from the original 120 to 160 km/h so that they could also be used on the main lines in Germany, but the performance was not increased. After the separation of the freight division of ČD Cargo in 2007, all locomotives of this series remained in the state of the parent Czech Railways. Like the original 372 series, these locomotives are also known as bastards due to their outdated technical solution at the time of production and poor operational reliability.
